APPLICATION: Deadline is Friday June 23rd at 5:00 P.M. No refunds will be made after Friday, June 16th at 5:00 P.M. Applications can be filled out and processed here on our website. Go to this link and get started. A non-refundable $100 is required as a minimum to hold a team or iron slot. You may pay in full otherwise

SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may be made up to and including the day of the race. However, in order for the correct information to appear in the newspaper, on the web page, and in the results, substitutions must be submitted no later than Wednesday, June 21st at 5:00 P.M. Any substitutions received after this date or on race day will not appear in the next day race results in the newspaper, but will be processed for the web page results as soon as possible. Substitution forms will be available on race day at each exchange area. There will be no name changes unless a form is filled out.

PARTICIPANTS: The Mountains to Sound Relay is a relay race open to all persons 15 years or older. The relay consists of Mountain Biking, Road Biking, Canoeing/Kayaking and Running.

TEAMS will consist of one person for each leg of the Race FOR FIVE TOTAL. A person may compete on only one team, and in only one leg of the Race. A team will be disqualified if one or more of the race legs are not completed. However, remaining race legs may be completed and times will be recorded.

PAIRS TEAMS consist of two people each competing in every other leg.

THE IRON solo division is for one person to complete all five legs and the full 100+ miles alone.

PADDLE portion for all divisions is single kayaks, surfskis and canoes with no restricions other than no oarlocks. Type 2 life jackets required

The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any team member or iron solo who does not abide by established race rules or whose equipment is deemed to be unsafe for the event in which the person is entered. A team may also be disqualified if any team participant or affiliate displays unsportsmanlike conduct or brings illegal equipment into the exchange points.

RACE: The race will begin at 8:00 A.M. at the Iron Horse Trail Parking lot near Hyak. All teams that fail to complete the mountain bike leg by 10 A.M. will be disqualified. All Road Bikers must have completed the Road bike leg no later than 1 P.M. Paddle leg must be completed by 4PM and all runners must be complete no later than 7PM. Racing bibs will be color coded by division. A wristband must be passed between teammates at each leg exchange of the Race. A team will be disqualified if it does not finish the Race with its team wristband. All participants must wear a bib designating the team number with the number clearly visible. For the safety of all participants, based on the judgement of the course monitors, if sufficient forward progress has not been made the racer will be disqualified and removed from the course. Any discrepancies will be addressed by the Executive Committee. Decisions are final the day of the Race.

TEAM PACKAGES:Team packages may be picked up Friday June 23rd from NOON to 4 PM and Saturday, June 24th from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. at the Flagship REI Store at 222 Yale Ave N Seattle, WA 98109 (206) 223-1944 (888) 873-1938 www.rei.com. RESULTS: It is important for all racers to show their bib numbers when crossing the exchange areas. Timing of individual legs may vary based upon exchange area layout. Therefore, personal time kept by racers may not correspond to official results.

COMPETITION PROTEST PROCEDURE & RULES
Upon completion of his/her venue (leg) of the Race, the racer has fifteen (15) minutes to notify the designated race official at the exchange area of his/her intent to protest and to request an official protest form. A protest may only be made by and against racers in the same venue (leg).

The official protest form will require information regarding the incident including witnesses for verification by the Mountains to Sound Executive Committee. The protester will be required to fill out the official form and turn it in to the Mountains to Sound Protest Committee with a $20.00 fee at the finish area (Golden Gardens Park) within thirty (30) minutes after the completion of the Race by their team.

A quorum of the Mountains to Sound Executive Committee will be responsible for the final decision regarding any protest, including any notification by race officials or race monitors who have documented violations of race participants and those not specified in the race guide. Upon completion of the review, the $20.00 will be forfeited to the Mountains to Sound Relay Race if the protest is denied or refunded if it is upheld. The Protest Committee's decision is final and any unsportsmanlike conduct by any race team or their affiliates will disqualify that team from the race.

RACER CONDUCT
The Mountains to Sound Race Committee would like to thank each racer for their participation in the 2006 Mountains to Sound Relay.It would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officers that make the relay race experience happen. These volunteers go out of their way to provide you with the finest and safest racing environment possible. PLEASE REMEMBER: ANY TEAM MEMBER THAT EXHIBITS UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT OR FAILS TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF ANY RACE VOLUNTEER OR OFFICIAL IS SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE RACE. WE WOULD LIKE TO ASK THAT YOU TREAT ALL OF THE VOLUNTEERS WITH THE RESPECT AND APPRECIATION THEIR EFFORTS DESERVE.
